Hydras
When printing a reduction block, I’m always haunted by the idea of unmet potential. Because the block is being destroyed in order to create the print, there’s no going back to improve or fix previous decisions. Every time I carve a layer, I split the edition into branching colorways—as former choices are resolved, future options proliferate. Like a hydra whose heads double each time one is cut off, so the outcomes of these prints multiple every time a layer is added.
